A Gathering to Reflect & Reconnect

Pause is a nature retreat that offers a rare and tender gathering for 50 beloveds. The retreat aims to provide a space for reflection, rest, healing, and collective care. It includes an opening event through a special community shared meal the afternoon of arrival, followed by two days of silence and fasting with spacious offerings for tending grief, loving praise, and wildling creativity. The event will close with a community process and a celebratory feast on the final day.

The retreat will take place on the last weekend of August (Aug 29th-Sep 1st) at Black River Farm & Wilderness, a 300-acre land of bewildering beauty cared by a newly emerging community of dedicated land tenders towards re-imagining community care. You are invited to step away from the noise and grind of daily life, and to find solace, connection, and recreate a sense of belonging within nature and community.

For the gathering we will be tenting on the land and there will be a wide range of crafted silent activities for you to re-find yourself in wonder, to pause and feel. .

The Offering:

- Two meals, opening and closing feast

- 2 days of caring accompaniment through silence and fasting (*water/liquid fasting)

- A long weekend program of diverse silent somatic explorations: dancing, meditation, sauna, nature hikes, Arts and Crafts, Ritual, and many other offerings.

- A scavenger hunt through nature with a multitude of installations to explore

- A Hydration station full of: Water, Teas, Electrolytes and broths

- Access to nature trails, river, forest, marsh.

- Bonfire & Cozy Lounging in nature.

Rachelle is a cook, a caterer and community organizer, an Earthworker, an educator, a writer, a witch and a wilderness  wanderer who  has dedicated much of their life to food justice, anti poverty and human liberation struggles.
Rooted in anti-colonial, anti imperial, anti fascist and anti-capitalist, anti racist and queer and feminist movements and communities- Rachelle seeks to feed resistance towards the liberation of all beings.


Deeply devoted to land based practices, they grow foods and medicines,  forage, ferment and support others in learning how to listen deeply, walk carefully and dance with reverence in relationship to land. 

Rachelle has been working with the practices of fasting and silence for over thirty years- holding long fasts twice each year and  silence one day every week.  Their spirit and resolve is strengthened and nurtured through practices of solitude, sex magic, philosophy, play, dance and delight.

Alejandro loves connecting with the natural world—hiking through the woods, swimming in the river, dancing, singing, laughing, or just being delighted in the company of close friends. For over 15 years, he’s worked as a community organizer and social arts facilitator, with a strong foundation in the mental health field and a passion for creating inclusive, meaningful community arts events.

Currently, Alejandro teaches a weekly Yoga class, produces Conscious Dance events, offers wellness recovery counseling, and provides holistic relaxation massage. Alejandro’s own practices weave together sensations, breath- and body-based meditation (Vipassana), somatic movement (5Rhythms), intuitive music-making, and time spent immersed in nature—all of which inspire the way he lives and relates to others.
